On the Road to Unen: Rhug'na'ru Freetown

#1

The Rhug’na’ru have set up a small town near Unen. So far its allegiance is undeclared.
The Rhug’na’ru must describe the town (max 15 buildings, made of wood and metal salvaged from sunken ships)
It will have been built over the past year and only finished now, with its first 100 residents.
The Rhug’na’ru must name the town.
Then Rhug’na’ru must decide what of their OWN weapons and resources they are using to defend the town.
If Rhug’na’ru declares the town’s allegiance to GUTS, UTR, GNA, or Lur Union, they may call upon the defenses from that larger faction to help them BUT they must get another player from the chosen alliegance faction to post here deploying the units in concert with the Rhug’na’ru.

The name of the town shall be Rhug’tor. I will describe it tomorrow or later tonight

Rhug’tor was something new in a world that seemed to be spiraling downhill fast, but it wasn’t there to stop it. Only to maybe slow it down. Surrounded by short walls, gates north and south, it was a modest town depending on the side you stood on. Each building had 7-8 beds, in pairs of without, with a common room for cooking and eating. The streets a fine patchwork of cobble over the rise of terrain. A section of the town is near empty, with two tall structures of metal tipped with mooring studs for airships coming in from Rhug’na’ru or elsewhere. The tallest building stood at five floors, steel girders keeping it up with a wooden shell. This is the inn, where guests may stay. The topmost two floors are reserved for special guests; leaders of tribes, diplomats and those willing to pay for a loftier room (assuming there are no actual important guests). At the top a rope extends to the sky to a Hindengog zeppelin, guns aimed outwards from the town. six raised platforms, you may call them towers, lined the walls, each with three Rhug’na’ru soldiers armed with their rifles and launchers.
As for allegiance, they found themselves in the Lur Union. A year ago that was decided, so that is where they found their allegiance. Reshed stopped here on his way back from Brez to look at its progress. He stood in another Hindengog, 01, and looked down at the town. “This has come along very well Hide, i’m glad to see that your side project has been a success.” Hide chuckled, looking down at Rhug’tor. “Hardly a side project, we have spent a year getting this up and running. We sent out for Ka’rhug’s builders just this morning via airship, 06 I believe. They stated they would reinforce our walls, and add another section of stone buildings.” Reshed nodded, taking a swig from his canteen. “Lets hope they get here soon enough, I don’t like they low walls here. Makes it look defenseless.” Hide shrugged, stepping away from the window and back to the controls.

Hob’ka the builder stood on the crest of Mt. Rhug. She had assembled many of her craft, stonemasons, woodcarvers, and builders to go and aid the call of the fledgeling town of Rhug’tor. These gogs were experienced, having carved the halls of Ka’Rhug from the living rock of the mountain. Some even had the prestige of working on the Balgog projects. Most however, were simple craftsgogs looking for a job. They did however, include Pluto in their ranks, who had volunteered to go along and use his earth leyas to assist in the town’s development. The one problem was getting the main tool there, the golem. It was a Balgog whose express purpose thus far had been to aid in building, lifting heavy materials, and scaring away those pesky ferals. It had worked on the trading post in Tla’loc’al, and had since become a valued member of Ka’Rhug’s industry. If it could not ride on the airship, it would take the underground tunnels to reach Unen (In order to avoid being overly conspicuous) , and then the building would begin.

Hob’ka had scrawled out plans on a hewn stone tablet with a piece of charcoal, a method of organization she found to be more than satisfactory. The walls, to be made of stone, would require a vast amount of rock to be quarried and delivered to the site. The Balgog would aid in this, pulling sledges of stone from a quarry site to the build site. The walls would be roughly 15 feet tall, and thick enough to support a company of guards to stand watch. It would encircle the previous wall, even building off of it. The two gates would be upgraded into stone gatehouses, and wood would be chopped and converted into two large sets of doors to service each gatehouse. Finally, a barracks of sorts would be put on the inside of the south eastern corner of the walls. The plans called for a medium sized structure, able to hold a retinue of guards and some extra equipment, as well as a watchtower to be aligned next to it on the wall corner itself. The tower would be about 30 feet tall, to allow for the easy spotting of foes. Lastly, with whatever stone they had left, they would build stone homes with wooden roofs, or with whatever materials were at hand.

The work on Rhug’tor town was well underway with many new structures finished and most of the citizens living calm helpful lives.
The Mag Der’al citizens have worked the hardest, putting good work into building their homes and businesses to benefit the people of Rhug’tor.

There is now a blacksmith, a general store, and a Caravan Outpost for visiting merchant caravans.

The stoneshapers of Ka Rhug did their part as well creating many new stone homes for the Olgogs of Rhug’tor. This has doubled the possible capacity of the town though many of the new houses and buildings are yet to be occupied.

Perhaps its proudest achievement was its Airship dock. The only one of its kind south of the Earther Colonies of Refuge, and west of Dawn Spear Aerie.

[Rhug’na’ru may now expand its trade in technological Zepplins like the Hindengog]

Lance stepped down from his Skimmer. They really made travel so much quicker and more pleasant.
He approached what he hoped was the Rhug’na’ru officials in town.

“I have some interest in purchasing a large home to convert into a chapel for the Order of the Bladed Sun,”
Said Lance, “What is Rhug’tor in need of that I could help provide?”

#8

Hide turned toward Lance, looking him up and down. Not one you would see around normally, but he had dealt with stranger. Not to be rude of course. “Well, we would be happy to have you here. We would need to negotiate a price for the building itself but I’m sure an agreement can come around.” He rubbed his chin. “As for what you could pay with… what CAN you provide to Rhug’tor. I assure you, we can be flexible.” He held his hand out. “My name is Hide, lead engineer of the Rhug’na’ru and this town is my brainchild. I don’t think I caught your name.”

#9

“Lance, Knight of the Bladed Sun,” he said introducing himself, "A pleasure to meet you Hide.
I am a master healer, and while the Rhug’na’ru are immutables most of the citizens of Rhug’Tor seem to be Leyas Users.
I could offer free healing to all Rhug’Tor citizens as payment for the land on which the Chapel is built.

For the building itself would you accept payment in Blessed Ammunition?
I could work your ammunition so it can hurt undead and other evils."

#10

Hide smiled. “I would be willing to accept both the healing for the people of Rhug’tor, and the blessed ammunition.” His smile faded as he looked up at the airships circling the tower. “We would need the healing, especially now. The flame winds caught us off guard, we were deep in thought, so to speak. The flame winds i’m sure have injured many.”

He looked back at the Knight. “I will have the papers written up after you choose a location for your chapel. After that I would say payment can come at any rate as long as the citizens are pleased with your presence and healing.”

#11

Lance smiled and agreed.

They set out and Lance selected a few plots of land on the east side of Rhug’tor.
As work began on the chapel Lance asked, “So what is your plan for future flamewinds?”

(Sorry to not reply yet, I need to regard the recent additions to Rhug’tor)

Hide had been tasked with Rhug’tor, becoming the mayor so to speak. He wasn’t flattered, he had been doing that already without a title. He was however glad to be back at his home. A few other higher ranking architects from Rhug’na’ru were around a planning table with plans of the town, motioning and drawing out plans to expand the city. Hide himself was taking a brake, looking out the window from the airship tower in the center of the town and enjoying a glass of water. Just outside the walls was a tent city, filled with many olgogs who had seemingly shown up overnight. His architects were addressing the problem, planning new sections of the town and renovating others.

The plans showed five new sections, in a wheel around what was already in Rhug’tor. Four of the sections would be made to hold 25,000 each, maybe more if needed. The last section would be a market and service area, but a more prominent role would be a system of water pipes and a sewer system running beneath the town. Electrical wire would run underground aside the pipes, lighting homes and streets. The power station would be located outside the town, running on hydrogen generators for now, seeing as that was flammable and they had an abundant supply of. However, in time they would begin to incorporate petrol generators into the power station.

Another tower would be built, to help airship traffic in the area. Trade would be more important than ever, getting food to the citizens of Rhug’tor would be a high priority with the influx of citizens. Trade was the best option at the moment, and they would try to get such locations as Port Unen, Simonsburg, Drewsport and even the UTR trading outpost if those still in it would even regard the Rhug’na’ru any more.

Hide went back to his desk, looking at a few papers scattered on it, messages and requests from the town no doubt. He pushed his glassed up and began reading them, leaving the town’s renovations to the others above him at the drawing tables.

Rhug’Tor was succeeding well now that the season of the flamewinds were over. Though a more permanent defense would need to be found against the flamewinds before the next year.

The sky above Rhug’tor was filled with multicolored derrigibles and small biplanes.

#14

Hide stood on his balcony, about partway up the tower, looking down at the town sprawled out before him. The warm breeze he had grown used to in his time there at the end of the flamewinds had been replaced by cooler winds and happier tidings. A few airships were coming in and many more dotted the sky above Rhug’tor. Biplanes flitted in between the lighter-than-air craft, formations watching the ground and the skies for trouble and to escort other airships into the proper airspace. Truly their mastery of the air, in their own way, had left Hide with a sense of pride. All he saw before him he had designed, from the town below to the airships and biplanes above. The guardian spirits were kind to the tribe of the Rhug’na’ru, and Hide truly felt the blessing of the sky spirit brothers Xephos and Cyclos as he had finished each of their designs.

Stepping away from the balcony he strode into the room he called his office. He lived here, a bed off to the side behind a small curtain proved that, but he didn’t sleep much. Too many designs to create and plan out. He had perfected two more airships, and named them after the spirits of the air. He felt that that was a very powerful symbol to show his thanks to the sky that the Rhug’na’ru found power in, but it was time to move on. He looked at the plans on his table, more plans than he had made in any year prior. They weren’t perfected, some less than others, but in time they could become quite powerful, and not just in the air.But that was for another day, and another month. For this month was a celebratory time. Not even a few days prior he had began posting about a celebration which would start here, in Rhug’tor.

The festival would be five days long, one day of setup and cleanup. Streamers, confetti, banners, and large flags depicting an airship on a simple blue background would be flown from every airship, along with smaller flags of many other colors, smaller objects throughout the town. The first day would consist of a lot of air shows: biplanes in formations, airships with parachutes jumping out, a great parade down the centeral street led by the newly repaired Steam Tank followed by the town Guard and several squads of the Rhug’na’ru military. A cart pulled by Brezen had Captain Reshed, himself and several notable members of the UTR. The second and third days would have food, games and merriment. A tournament would be held at some point, and signup would occur on the second day for the events. The fourth day would have ceremony of silence, to remember those who died since and during the Civil War. The last day would be a day of rest, allowing people to rest and relax before the last day where the town would be cleaned by the guard and many volunteers among the town.

Hide smiled as he finished cleaning up his designs. He was looking forward to the Festival of the Sky.
