An army to call his own

Kolgol smiled broadly as he stepped briskly through the narrow passageway. He was walking deep below the earth, in the tunnels that had recently been dug below Mt Rhug. They were a labyrinthine mass of inter-webbing holes, some ending sharply, others simply sloping off seemingly interminably. The part he was in was amongst the deepest sections, so deep that most did not venture here. This section was under Lake Ruil itself. It was extremely dangerous at best, as many efforts to dig further had been thwarted by rushing waters and collapsing tunnels. However, this place held no fear for Kolgol, as he felt the directions of the passages through his leyas. Finally he arrived at his destination, a large cave whose roof sloped upward into a mass of stalactites near the ceiling. The water dripping from the roof paired with the volcanic heat from below created a rather unique weather condition, a heavy sort of fog that hung heavily in the room. In the center of the cave, several olgogs worked frenziedly away at two roughly humanoid forms with stone chisels. The forms rose out of the center of the room, twin massive silhouettes made out of a combination of several volcanic rocks, obsidian, granite, basalt and such. The figures looked human, but distorted, with thick torsos and brawny arms, while stocky legs supported the overall frames. The heads were the most striking part, resembling weathered skulls with a pair of spiked hornlike protrusions sprouting from the top. Most notable were the facial features, deep pits of eyes and gaping maws that seemed to recess into the very center of its body. Each stood just over twenty feet tall, give or take a few inches. Kolgol smiled and gestured to his friend and fellow cohort “The Auf” who stepped out of the dark tunnels to view the spectacle.

“So what do you think my friend? Are the new golems truly as intimidating as you’d hoped? Our Balgogs will truly strike fear into the hearts of our enemies…”

He cracked his knuckles and prepared for the part ahead. He had the skills necessary to implant a spirit of fire into each, but had little idea as to what powers to give them. For this he relied on “The Auf”, who had devoted more time to arcane studies and less to delving in the earth.

“The Auf” turned to Kolgol with a dead-serious look. “Must use wisely. When time right.” he advised his friend. In the back of his mind, the Aufgog knew that the Balgogs, as they had been called between the two gogs, were living creatures, even if they were created through use of the Leyas, and must not be taken lightly.

“The Auf” stepped toward one of the behemoth figures and gestured for Kolgol to do the same with the other. Fire Leyas began to swirl around him as he concentrated them into the torso of the first, to protect the the spirit that would soon lie within with an aura of Leyas. Once finished they would artifice one of each Balgog’s hands with a strong blast of fire.

(OOC: “The Auf” and Kolgol are artificing the torsos of the Balgogs with Protective Aura, and one of each’s hands with Fireball. The fire Spirits will then be artificed into the torsos by Kolgol (Fire Leyas lvl4). If it matters, “The Auf” has LR of 5, for his part of the artificing.)

As Kolgol and The Auf worked week after week on the Balgog project they found they were able to make the spirit powered Automatons faster and faster. Soon they each had a veritable army of the automatons working alongside them assisting in the production of more Balgogs.

Finally The Auf and Kolgul came into the Golem factory one morning to see their creations waiting for them.

They were a truly impressive army (by Olgog tribal standards) and both Olgogs felt great pride to have built so many in so little a time.

–{Kolgol and Ol Lur gains Five Balgogs each for their tribe. They also gain a unit of 20 Balgogs which can be deployed to any mission where a member of both of their tribes are involved. This is not the standard speed of production it is a one time bonus for their teamwork on this project}—

(OOC: Are a few of the Balgogs still producing more on their own, or do either Kolgol or “The Auf” need to be present?"

Kolgol entered a large rectangular chamber inside the volcano. The floor and walls were rough and chiseled looking, although scorched in some places for some reason. The ceiling was reinforced in several places with architectural struts, and in the sides of the walls, windows had been cut through the thick rock to allow sunlight to naturally light the room. As he walked through the room, various olgogs glanced up from their tools, wiping sweat from their brows. Reaching the far end of the room, the olgogs, stepped aside to reveal the two creations that Kolgol had bid them construct. They were made of the same stone that the massive Balgogs were crafted from, but were far smaller.

The first one on the left, resembled a wolf of some kind, and had about the same figure as a Tsoga wardog. It was made with several openings on its back, slit vents to allow something to air itself. Its face was vicious looking, and it appeared almost demonic. “A hound of Hell” is how squire Dominic had put it, as Kolgol remembered. Although he didn’t know much about said beast, hellhound sounded like the perfect title for this new being. They were smaller, and easier to produce than a Balgog, and were most likely a bit more agile as well.

He looked at the next creation, standing about the same height as the hellhound, give or take a few inches. The only way to aptly describe the form was “impish”. It looked like a little malevolent creature out of an earther child’s fairytale. However, once you got past the cheeky grin, there was nothing fairytale about it. Black draconian wings had been carved behind it, and curved inwards for a neater pose. Beneath its smile were daggerlike fangs, as well as sharp incisors that looked like razor blades. It had long claws on its legs, and talons on its hands, however it appeared that the hands were made closer to a human or olgog’s, and less as bestial claws. Small horns came out of the top of it’s head, completing its strange appearance. Yes, “imp” was the perfect fit for this beast. It would also be easier to make than the hulking giants that were the Balgogs, and if they worked correctly, would even be able to fly, acting as a scout in key situations.

Kolgol smiled, and patted the master craftsman on the back. He would now contact “The Auf” to come see his new idea, and then they could progress with the construction. However, the beasts were smaller and simpler, so perhaps he and another Aufgog could do it alone. Time alone would tell he supposed. Leaving them to their work, he went to contact an old friend.

((The Auf can post to this if he wishes to help. Up to narrator’s discretion how well, if at all, these would work, but they are made with the same fundamentals as the Balgogs are. The only difference being that there is levitate on the imps instead of warm aura.))

“The Auf” didn’t enjoy keeping secrets about the activities within these caves, but he knew that these constructs would provide strength against the threats gogs faced, and in the long run many lives would be saved. He listened patiently while Kolgol explained the functions of the new constructs. When he finished, “The Auf” nodded his approval and suggested something of his own. “Balgogs; tough. Hounds; fast. Imps; scouts. Sword-Wielder; damaging. As Tor’Lur of Ol’Lur; strong. Gog-shaped golem; fire spirit, fire sword.” as he spoke, “The Auf” showed what he meant by conjuring a sword out of fire leyas, then dispersing it once his meaning was clear. “Or burrowing creature. Long, slender creature. Perhaps earth spirit, tunnel materials, even acid? For underground movement. Helpful to consider.”
