Goblin Lands Intermission Heroic Mission: Black Scale Recruitment Drive

#1

Just outside of the port of Unen, lived the elderly Olgog, M’og’gog the Fishergog. Every morning he would train promising Ur Kug in the art of making lures, preparing cru’ie crab traps, and skin diving. All respected M’og’gog Fishergog, but few knew he was an older Colonial Olgog. He had grown up in the dark canal-city capitol of the colony of Kelvara.
M’og’gog Fishergog had been known as Gog Mauler back then, and run with the toughest gang in the entire city.
The Black Scale Gang had started as community organization, poor Olgogs and Vlahadassi that banded together in the slums of Kelvara. Their main goal had been to kill or drive out the PoisonBringer dragons that infested their canals. House Thalia grew vast quantities of stankweed, used in healing potions,on the canal ends near their neighborhood. They had enough success to be brought on as the militant arm of the wealthy merchant house. The Black Scale Gang lived better than most in their slums, but House Thalia never let them get successful. Once a Black Scale, a black scale for life. Dreams of his life as Gog Mauler assailed M’og’gog Fishergog each night as he slept. Smashing in the faces of House Oberon dock workers, curb stomping a hoodlum that tried to knife him, and cutting down a union organizer and dumping the body in the canals to be eaten by hydras.
Each night that last part of the dream was the same. The sky was heavy with bolt flies, the smell of stagnant water full in his nostrils. In that moment he could see it. The eyes of the hydra, the one that took his leg and dragged him into the water. He woke up miles down the river Morai.
In real life, he hopped a caravan south under an assumed name and soon became M’og’gog Fishergog in the Port of Unen. In the dream there was a band of Black Scale Gangers waiting for him, ready to punish him for his failure, for not returning, for the years away. Then one morning he awoke from the dream to a familiar knock on the doorpost of his driftwood shack. He got up walked to the door, and pushed open the scavenged ship’s door that served as his front door. There was a pack of eight armored Olgogs. Colonials, dressed in green and black dragonscale armor, with gasmasks fashioned from dragonflesh. At their lead was a smarmy looking olgog with a white spiked mane.
“We are looking for Gog Mauler,” sneered the olgog with the white spiked mane.
“My name is M’og’gog Fishergog, just a common Ur Kug,” came the wary reply.
“Of course it is…Gog Mauler,” said the smarmy olgog, “We know it is you. You have been spotted by the Church of One Inquisition, Fellow Scale. Their Inquisitors would be breathing down your neck right now but for us.”
“And what do you want in exchange?” M’og’gog Fishergog asked.
“The bosses up north made a deal with the Inquisitors,” said the smarmy olgog, “We set up a few training camps down here for gangers, create some insurgency groups, do some dirty work and collect a few treasures while we are down here.”
“What does House Thalia get out of it?” asked M’og’gog Fishergog as he grabbed some fish jerky hanging off his roof in the hot sun. He began gnawing away at it, making loud smacking sounds as he chewed.
“They get gold, and lots of it. And we get paid in fine gold coin too,” said the smarmy olgog as he picked a louse from his fur and ate it, “Black Scale gets the best recruits we find, and the insurgency cells down here in the Goblin Lands get the loose cannons and dangerous psychos.”
“So how do I figure in?” asked M’og’gog Fishergog.
“Your little plot of land here is Site One for our recruitment drive,” sneered the ganger,“My name is Grunjya, and you get to be my new landlord.”
“And what do I get out of it?” asked M’og’gog Fishergog.
“You get to choose who stays here, and who gets sent to the insurgency cells,” said Grunjya as he stroked one of his white spines made from his mane fur. I decide who gets sent back to Kelvara. Once I get back that is…"
“Get back?” asked M’og’gog Fishergog, “From where?”
“I hired on Raiders, cavalry, and simple thieves. Looters mostly for the first run,” said Grunjya, “I have some loot to collect on the border of Karov and Tla’loc’al. When I get back you and I and the boys are going to have a long talk about why you didn’t send word back to the Black Scale all these years.”
And so M’og’gog Fishergog found himself drawn back into the life. He chose bullies and local vandals to be shipped off by the Black Scale Gang while he waited for Grunjya. The local good kids he kept far away from the new “recruitment office.”
Weeks passed and no word from Grunjya and his raiders.
Instructions still came in, delivered by a variety of hidden means that M’og’gog Fishergog was never exposed to, but he knew the local trainers were shaken up by something. Still more young gogs were taken, armed and trained to do violence against fellow olgogs.
He finally awoke one morning to find his nice little salvage yard, his little home a full blown terrorist training facility and didn’t know what to do.
Also unluckily for him, the UtR forces tracing whom had hired the cavalry that attacked Aufgog Lalder, had just discovered the encampment.

Mission stats:
Location: One two floor coverted slum dwelling (operations). One single floor house (shack), a large sandy lot with twenty tents (barracks), section of sandy coast with water.

UtR can’t go into Unen directly, they must hire mercs to accomplish the task. These mercs cannot be government officials of the UtR.
There is still the belief among the UtR that Lorne Harlas is working with the Black Scale Gang here in Unen.
Mag Buskt has put forth a payment of four silver bars to any hero who aids in dispersing the training camp.

Camp Defenses: At least 10 Olgog Ur Kug & 10 Olgog Ur Rhug being trained as insurgents.
At least five Black Scale Ganger trainers armed as in DR Core book pg 193. A variety of booby traps, explosives, pit traps, bear traps and barbed wire. .

Scribe, after hearing of the job offered by Mag Buskt, set out for this new camp of the Black Scales. As he traviles he places runes on one of the bottles he carries in his pack. He hoped to artifice it with Sparkling Lights in order to make a flash bomb as a distraction. If he could get to the three buildings and place a rune inside, each one would be filled with poison gas. The idea only came to him after that one job he had gone on with Lord Mada.

#3

After the attack by the Black Scale Gangsters and the betrayal of Black Lorne Harlas. Lalon, though much younger and still in training didn’t like being surprised like that. Now they have located this training camp.

This is not the first time He tangled with the Black Scale Gangsters, though it was Tor’ab who did the fighting that time. He was just piloting the Skimmer. This time he would have to take them down. This time though, he would need to make sure he kept a piece of the trainers bodies to bring them back for questioning if he couldn’t take them alive.

Also, Lalon knew he was better armored and has better weapons than the gogs he would be attacking. But as his last battle taught, one surprise attack could end him. And he knew that Air Leyas attacks would not work on the Trainers due to Their armor.

Besides taking out the camp, Lalon has a side goal of getting a set of the Trainers armor, or the helmet to match Tor’ab’s armor. This would prove to his elder he is ready to learn shapeshifting.

Prep and Research
First he needed to scout the camp out without being seen. This would be just like his training with Tor’ab. A game of Hide and Seek. He would hide and seek out his targets. Making sure before he moved somewhere, someone wasn’t hiding in the shadow.

He also had a plan for the traps they set. Sometimes the best trap is someone elses. They will know where they set the traps, but if one were to move them just a bit, they would fall into their own traps. Or if one were to enhance their traps with an additional trap…. one could have lots of fun.

To scope out the camp. First he would use his leyas msight, nightvision and/or bird sight (from goggles) to checkout the camp from a distance. Making sure to keep to buildings and/or roofs. Of course since he would trap these viewing points, he will make sure to keep a look out here too. He would time guards, see if any go off alone, and how they brought in new recruits.

Before going in, using Light and Air leyas, he creates some flashbangs for use if he needed a distraction. Lalon would activate his Life Shield and Obscure from Items. (Note, he has a ring of healing to cure damage and poison.)

Sneaking in
Next, when it came to the attack, he summoned a Growling as a mount. He used it to shadow jump from Shadow to shadow. First using his senses, including Leyas sight, Nightsight, and the information he learned from watching, to make sure any shadow he jumped in wasn’t taken by someone else.

He will carry out his plans with any traps he finds and does not set off. Lalon will use his ring of Tunneling to move or deal with pit traps. Also in some of the shadows, leaving a few free for his escape, he would setup one of his favorite traps, Eletrical trap leyas. (aka, if someone shadow jumps there, they should get a shock.)
If Lalon has to take out a guard to get in, He will take out any lone guards quietly using his cut sword, preferring to come up behind the guard, cutting its throat and dragging them back into the shadows. If his timing is correct, he should have some time before the perimeter guard is missed.

He would move his way to the buildings. Starting with the shack, and then move to the operations building. Taking out who he could take out. Besides taking out gogs Lalon is also collecting intel and any proof of who is behind this group. Lalon will take out gogs who are alone at first, not chancing being noticed until things go to downhill.

Distraction
Setting buildings on Fire when Lalon’s down going through it using Fire leyas.

Another distraction
Knowing many Ur Rhugs, he knew he could get them to fight each other, and create the distractions he needed to take out some of the trainers. Picking 2 Ur Rhugs that don’t look like they get alone, Lalon would use his wave motion fists, timing it to make it seem like on Ur Rhug pushed another when his back is turned. Then do it again, when they turn away from each other again.

Another Distraction - (if they know they are under attack)
Summon a Chimera to do fly bys firing flame down buildings.

Enemy notices attack, but hasn’t found Lalon yet.
But are searching for who has been killing the gogs of the camp. He will summon a Chimera to appear and start breathing fire on the gogs and the buildings. Any gogs not affected by the fire, will get a cold breath and ripped at by the Chimera’s claws. while this is going on, Lalon will use his light Leyas to mask his Magi cannon, and he will start sniping down gogs or taking the distraction to strike a gog and hide.

If they find Lalon and he does not have allies around (aka Greatly out numbered).
First Lalon will drop the flashbangs to blind the gogs around. Then Lalon will use his Growling to start shadow jumping through his path laid traps of Lightning traps (Landing next to them). Hoping if any following him would pick a shadow near him, and fall into his trap. If this does not work, Lalon summon a Chimera to attack so he could escape.

Lalon will go back staking out the camp looking for his opportunity to attack again. Or to take out anyone who leaves without enough friends.

Battle with Allies or not bad odds by himself.
In a battle, Lalon will prefer to strike from the shadows using his summons and range weapons to even the numbers before joining the battle up close. Lalon will help anyone he considers an ally. But he will not trust anyone completely due to the prior events. Lalon will shadow jump to the back side of the enemy gogs, he will strike the flanks, and then work his way in. He will keep summoning creatures to fight with him and create distractions.

Any battle will have the Buildings burnt down. Once this is done, Lalon will use water Leyas to out the fire or at least keep it under control.

Abilities:
Lalon ((Ur Tor Special) LR:4, Light: 3, Shadow:3, Air:2, Earth:1, Fire:2, Water:2, General:2, Summ:3) (Not including his +1 to Water / Earth week 16.)

Lok’Reshad was happy. He was finally being allowed to go on a mission by himself. After listening to the troopers tell stories of his father’s exploits, he would finally get to do something important to show that he was as capable as the other members of the unit.

Thinking back, he was glad that he had chosen to go by the nickname given him by one of the orphans that the unit had taken in had. Originally a joke, he had chosen to make it his and something to be proud of. The youth had called him ‘metal flesh’ and so he chose to take pride in his heritage. He was still listed officially as the Son of the Redeemer, but preferred to go by Lok’Reshad.

When the info came in that there was a recruiting camp for a colonial gang was nearby, he had requested that he be allowed to sneak in and try to get the information about the people behind it and maybe get some of the recruits out safely and offer them a better job.

The Captains had told him that the rule against doppelganging people without the permission would be relaxed for the duration of the mission.

the plan:

sneak into unen, doppelganged as a young olgog. observe the guards and when one is alone knock him out and doppelgang him to learn the layout of the base and how to get in. after infiltrating, he will carefully talk to the recruits and try to convince them to break with the gangers and come work for the unit and Drewsport.

During the course of the infiltration, he will attempt to doppelgang the trainers to learn what they know about the operations of the Black Scales in the Goblin lands.

If there is an attack, he will try to get out any of the recruits that seem to be accepting of his offer to defect.

Abilities:
Lok’Reshad ((K’ias youth) FS 6, Shapeshift 3, Shadow 1, doppelgang 6, Tough as nails)
equipment:
Stone of Auf Lal’al [heal internal (3), Floatinf Torchlight(3)]
Cloak of unit 817 [AR vs melee/missile/chill +2, chill shield (3) +10 vs energy, hide in shadows (3)]

Derlur did not like having to leave Brez for so long, but he didn’t have a choice. He had to see this through. He made his way to Unen, having given his mask to Shirley of the Gang of Uf Mag’og for additional trade leverage in the future. He rendez-voused with his cohort, made sure he was apprised of the happenings in Unen, and retrieved his Red-Bishop Strider. He would then raise Shadow Armor (the level 3 light ability, if I recall… If I’m wrong, oops!). Otherwise, sparkling lights (the level 1 light ability that makes it hard to hit him… which is amusing because Strider).

Using Leyas sight, he would first check to see if there were any Leyas-based traps or wards, making sure to avoid any that would be malicious to him. He would then wait for what would invariably be an attack led by his peers in the desert (UtR) and stride in, guns blazing. As Black Scales (and their trainees) ran around below, he would try to stomp on them, as if they were moles popping up out of holes. If any looked to cause him actual harm, he would levitate them away. As the carnage raged below, he would take a massive pole or beam and use it to swat enemy olgog away (they were all enemies, right?). Wheeeeee!!! Wooden and temporary structures would also be destroyed, because they look crunchy from the cockpit of a Strider.

Was there a purpose in him coming here? He might have forgotten, all said and done. Maybe his purpose was to finally figure out how to use this thing? But he knew he wanted to see what it was like to be able to levitate a creature in place while he swings a massive giant beam at it. Maybe, he would rejoice in making contact with said living creature as it travelled far into the ocean. He might make the occasion to then run around perimeter, waving his arms in the air as he jumps up and down to celebrate such a momentous swing. (If he finds a trap, slow fall, levitate out/pull self out). This was fun!

And then, just to freak everyone out, when all was said and done, if possible, he would find a shadow to walk the entire strider through (and make his way back to his cohort to drop the strider back off).

Note - No strider pilot ability. All else is standard.

#6

The events of the last few weeks weighed heavily on Yohai. He felt as lost as ever. Defeating WarMonger’s avatar had not brought him the internal peace he expected. He also had lost the blade he was looking for… again. There were more questions than answers, and his shoulders were weary with concern. Most recently, however, he realized that his requests had taken a toll on Rogarth. He needed to make it up to the cambion. As he disembarked from the Batavian Bat, he waited in Unen, trying to find a way to do so.

Then he heard of a bounty, offered by the being known as the Mag Buskt, offering silver. He knew these creatures had no use for ghaz, but perhaps silver would give Rogarth enough bartering power to last him a while longer while on the Bat. So he made his way to the campsite. Being armed and armored as he was, he knew there was no chance to sneak into the encampment. He would therefore simply make his way into the encampment. He used Leyas sight to determine if any of his adversaries utilized Zela or were immutables. He would then shadowwalk around them or approach from a different avenue. His Annihilation Shield would protect against most missile weapons, but best not to test them against Earther weapons.

Otherwise, he would walk in and defeat his enemies. It was for occasions such as this where he wondered if he should have taken lessons from Killian for Blooddance. It’s utility in this environment would have been very useful to dodge incoming attacks. But it was not his way. He was Akalus, through and through. But he definitely needed to learn how to fly. It would make transport… easier. Nevertheless, he would cautiously approach his foes, disarming them (literally), and killing the full-fledged Black Scale Gangers. As he unmasked one of them, he would would say aloud, in olgog, “My mask is better,” and then decapitate them. As he made his way through the camp, he would chant a war chant, typical of his people and in High Falos, taking pride in his efficiency, heritage, and serving to remind these particular olgog that their gangs are meaningless before the might of the Uthvelor. He, unlike Raven, did not truly believe other races to be lesser subcreatures, though Earthers often tested his beliefs. However, he knew it was an effective tool to instill fear in his enemies. Reputation was useful in battle. It plays with their emotions, something that he had trained his entire life to avoid.

Traps: using keen sight (yay Uthvelor!), try to avoid them. No other specific skill to avoid. Explosions he can handle. Depending how deep the trap, shadowwalk out (if there’s time) or, if reaction time is enough, rip hole through reality to plane of awareness. Close it up, and open up another one at the end up back on the other side of the camp.

When all is said and done, collect the loot and give the silver to Rogarth.

#7

Shirley used her comm crystal to contact Vektor. She wasn’t ready to face Urog’s wrath… yet. Vektor didn’t say anything once she was done. “I’ll take care of it,” he said.

Vektor sent Rubbah (Goblin Kingz general character, not player character, Earth 4) and Hikiti on a stalkers to gather Shirley, bringing enough food and water. Rubbah also carried a Capture model magi cannon, hob’tor axe, Hide armor of the Yagogi’al (2 A.R. Vs Melee & Missile, WT 2 Artificed with WARM AURA, SUSTAIN, LIFE SHIELD, NIGHTMARE WARDING and CAUSE ELATION at (3)), and Skull Helmet adornment of Unit 7756 (chill shield, hide in shadows, and shadow walk (3)).

Strategy: Liaise with Shirley, get a Black Scale Ganger mask (just in case it was needed). Ssing Earth abilities, first was to sense traps in the ground. His objective would be to destroy the buildings and use tunnel material to destroy the structures. Wall of pikes is good for crowd control. As is mudwave and change earth. So is a blast of Capture Model’s cannon. But those are for the olgog in the way of his objective. He didn’t really want to hurt his fellow olgog, just get them out of the way. Stalker tactics in full effect. He wanted to bring the buildings down, tunnelling under tents (from afar), and going for the foundations of any structures. He remembered the stories of Thomasville, and knew how to bring down walls. If he could do that without engaging, great. He would then liaise with any United Tribes of Der’al members and either help them fight out, disperse, or any other actions they desire (particularly Lalder’s tribals). If he gets gassed, the mask helps. The hobtor spear was only if his health dropped… he would then use it on the incapacitated to heal himself. He didn’t particularly care about the mercs, or the betrayal against Lalder, so he took no particular actions against them unless they attacked him or pr prevented him from accomplishing his goal. He just wanted to watch the walls crumble and not disappoint Vektor or Urog. Or Shirley… on second thought, he would make sure he protected Lalder’s ilk.

Other tactics: If anyone got stuck in a pit, alter the earth to create grooves for trapped olgog to climb out of… or tunnel material a slope out of the pit. For snipers on perches, get rid of their perches (shape wood or tunnel material).

#8

Or’tor as always was overexcited to take action for the events at hand. Yagogi’al the Og’ab had expressed the importance of stealth, something which Or’tor decidedly needed to work on. This would be her chance, and by accomplishing the mission she would show the master Gor’ab the value of her importance and worth in taking on a leadership role. She was the most advanced of the totem students, even more so than her father and yet Maggul and Onigor got all the respect.

It had been the previous morning, that Or’tor had decided upon which totem spirit to follow, here she hoped that THE MIGHTY YADOL had been the right course of action. First thing was to follow her father into the tent of the elders, this was of little effort. While there, Or’tor would take the tribal talisman from the head of the leader of Totem Uhryu. This was a relic from the attack on their neighbors, and they awaited communication from their tribe before any actions were taken. The head remaining there in the tents of the Gor’ab was of great importance, for with the ability of FLESH AND SPIRIT DWELLER there could plot with the knowledge of another leading Uhryu. Then she went off towards the stables, and collected a group of 3 ma’lie to plan for strafing attacks. She will also cover herself up in the robes, traditionally wore by those of Karov but making sure to obscure her face especially.

In route to Unen, Or’tor used the only key as skills she had learned, LEYAS SIGHT, and began channeling with her totem spirit. She channeled TOTEM SPIRIT LEVEL 2, calling forth as many YADOL as she could handle (not sure her charisma, so how many she could obtain). She would use LEYAS SIGHT to first see evidence of incoming YADOL and then for any LEYAS traps in the area. At first sheis just scouting, running errands around the encampment, when attack is eminent Or’tor looked to make strafing runs with blade (obsidian blade, not the traditional Yagogi zela scimitar) on the back of the ma’lie making it look like her force was much larger than just here. Then being in the port of Unen, jump into the waters meeting with the yadols. She will ride the yadol through the terrain and then along with them make ‘land shark air jaws’ style attacks dragging the gangers under the surface. During the charge, Or’tor will cry out ‘LONG LIVE TOTEM UHRYU!’
