Goblin Lands Heroic Mission Week 12: The VofV Terrorist Arrest

#1

The Hovertrain has finally arrived. It passed through the station near Tla’loc’al and in Brez without incident.
Now it continues on towards Simonburg, with Colonial citizens in some cabins and Brezan and Tla’loc’alan Olgogs in other cabins.

Ben Gorman has worked for the VofV as a merc for years, and was really looking forward to his trip to Chooru until he saw the Olgogs boarding the train. While he doesn’t have any true hatred of the Olgogs, but he is a true believer in segregation (for irrational reasons).

Seeing the start of the end of that segregation, Ben Gorman’s irrational anger grew. At the first stop near Tla’loc’al he heard other VofV passengers discussing the multicultural center and how impressed they were with the Olgogs. At Brez, he hear the other VofV passengers talk about how maybe it was time to start being more open to the natives. Some even talked of moving to Brez and living among the natives.

He was livid, as only a subconscious racist could be.

Finally he decided to make an announcement. He went from car to car, attaching explosives to the link points between the trains. Then he explained what he had done to the conductor and demanded use of the Intercom.

Ben Gorman said, “Humans and Natives ARE NOT meant to live together. I want every person on this train to seperate into different cars in the next half-hour or I will blow the links and you all can die in the desert together!”

Hearing this some shuffled between cars, others sat where they were angry that anyone would tell them who they could socialize with.

Challenges:

1- Who do you send in? (are they onboard the train or how do they board the train)

2- How do you counter the proximity explosives on the link points between train cars?

3- How do you defeat Ben Gorman?

Inquisitor McRiley watched the train as he drove along on his hoverbike, he shook his head as the taint of the Goblins was bring spread so rapidly with this new train. He had been ordered to observe and look for opportunities worth reporting. That is when his chance came, scanning the radio frequencies he discovered that a disgruntled mercenary had placed charges and ordered the Goblins segregated to train cars not occupied with Earthers. If they didn’t he would damage the train and strand them all in the desert. Hardly the most brilliant plan with the Goblins magic’s aiding them, but hey it was something.

McRiley had a few options, he could run in and shoot the man, causing the train to separate causing the heritics and Goblins to be stuck out here sounded nice. However he was one man, didn’t want to risk getting shot and then having someone diffuse the situation.

McRiley drove his bike along the train, to the front of it, he would attempt to board the train in the front, dust himself off, and find Gorman. He would surrender himself to him and inform him that he feels the same way as he does. In order to win his trust McRiley shall hand over his laser pistol as a “gift” to him and offer to help make sure that no one tried to go after him. “My name is Charles McRiley and I am tired of these Natives belong in their own hovels while Earthers took care of business. If these people wouldn’t listen to reason then they would be made to understand. Don’t worry, I will make sure that no one tries to take you down. I have this heavy pistol, I will be at your side here until these bleeding heart fools understand the truth that Earthers and Natives need to stay with their own kind. This train is for our people’s benefit, the Natives can gain something too as long as they understand their place and stick to the places where they belong.”

Zlattan was excited to be taking the train from Brez to Simonsburg. He had been given the order by the Great and Mighty Goblin King Urog to see what it was like and check-in with the progress in Simonsburg. And then this strange disembodied voice came from everywhere. He didn’t understand what was going on as the message was in Earther and wasn’t translated into Olgog. When would these Earthers realize that not all olgog speak Earther?!?!

But he knew panic when he saw it. Zlattan began by singing, a skill he picked up while traversing the dessert to Thomasville. He sang a song to calm the fears of other passengers, to get them to think rationally, and when possible, have someone translate what was going on. When he finally figured it out, he asked himself “how is this Earther going to know if it was done?!?!” He began to move through the train. (If he finds a “bomb”, he’d create water, then freeze it. If he even knew what a bomb was).

He’d go throughout the train, calming folk down. If need be, he’d enhance his charisma to convince multiple individuals to calm down, and then continue. If he reached Ben Gorman, he’d sing a song to calm the Earther down. (ooc, there’s no specific ability, but anything to make the guy feel less hateful and spiteful, even if it doesn’t change his mind). “Look, we spent thousands of years living apart and trying to kill each other. I get it, you don’t want us to be together. But killin’ us all ain’t gonna solve the fact that Earther’s n gog have been fighting for hundreds of years. This’ll just be another incident in the long time of terrible things we’ve done to each other. Today, you can change that, even if you don’t like these changes. If it bothers you and your kind that much, we can talk about it, but please don’t blow us all up before you.”

While he’d like NOT to have to fight anyone, given the necessity he’d cast Sparkling light to blind Ben. He’d slick surface to prevent escape or limit movement, then chill metal to make metal objects on his body too cold to hold. Zlattan had no desire to hurt the Earther, but the Earther couldn’t be allowed to kill people for no good reason.

Lorne Harlas woke from his nap at the voice over the intercom. He looked around trying to discern what was happening. Finally discerning the gist of the situation, he noticed, to surprise, that he had sat right next to an olgog. He didn’t mind olgogs, being that in his line of work, if you got picky about who you worked with, you’d soon be out of a job. At the same time he wondered about the man who was taking the train hostage. Surely he couldn’t expect to walk out of here alive. If he did segregate the train and they continued, he highly doubted that this guy would simply walk off the train into the heat of the desert. He knew the type. Radical, angry, probably not thinking clearly. This guy would probably blow the train whether they divided or not. He knew a fatalist when he saw one, and he knew this guy wanted to go down with the ship…er, train. Not that Lorne was bothered by a little jaunt through the desert, his ring would keep him alive. However, the angry olgogs looking for revenge against humans might be a bit more threatening if they decided to start throwing fireballs.

That was when he noticed the hover-bike skimming alongside the train, and the figure riding hellbent for the engine car. “Well this changes things” He thought to himself. Reinforcements? Or could it be someone trying to simply be a good Samaritan. He sighed, slowly standing up, his plate mail clanking noisily against the side of the train car. He began consuming the fear of those inside his train car. He urged the other noncombatant passengers to switch cars for the time being, it would at least relax the terrorist, so he hopefully wouldn’t do anything rash. Once things became more orderly, he would slip into the shadows of the train and move to the front of the train via a shadow walk.

Putting a chill shield around himself, he would slowly rise up in the conductor’s car, and survey the scene while hiding in shadows. He would hit the engine with a chill bolt or two to stop the train if it wasn’t already stopped. He knew a thing or two about how dynamics worked, and a train car that wasn’t moving had less of a chance to flying off the rails should explosives be detonated.

Now fully revealed, he would attack Gorman with no reserve with his flame worked hand and a half sword, trying to keep the space between them short so as to minimize Gorman’s ability to use his rifle. Should the other man he had spotted entering the car prove hostile, Lorne would use a death blast from his sword to force them back.

(OCC I have not got an answer to my mission question on what my standard unit is. I’m assuming non elder. I can update this to someone else if I can’t use him. Let me know, the plan will stay mostly the same. )

Van((Vandal) FS: 3|LR:3, Light: 1, Shadow:3, Air:3, Earth:2, Fire:2, Water:2, General:1)
Equipment
Van the Goblin Vandal - Armorfiend hide Vests, Swordfiend bone Throwing blades, Solar Essence studs, Lightning spear Studs on Handle, Phoenix strike pistol. Wave motion First Glove, and. healing and res potions (x4), Waterskin of create water.
Shields: Chill shield. IF in HtH, he’ll activate Ice Shield.

Van was working on changing. He thought “He had cursed the life of the tribals for years. He saw no point in it. No one had looked out for him in the past. Until recently when he was saved from the Oners execution camp. He though he was going to die. Then his new tribe came in and save him. Or course they were there for the others, but he didn’t argue with being saved. He was getting used to the idea. Their Elder, Lalder ordered one of his on the trains and told us to report what we saw and heard. He was even being taught Earther, though he was only so so at it.”

When he heard the announcement and then the other earthers talking around him, he got the understanding. Some crazed earther planted bombs between the trains. He would not let this train blow up on his time. It was important to the elders who saved him, so he would protect it.

Van would got to the very last car and tell the earthers to get in to next to last car.

To the earthers in broken earther he would say “Leave, I try to disarm boom” and he would point to the door behind himself.

So if his experiment here failed, he only had to save himself. Once everyone was out, he got to a position where he could see the links and hopefully the first bomb, shadow jumping if required. Hoping to get a close look at the bomb without setting it off. He knew most earther tech shut off when hit with shadow leyas, so he would concentrate some shadow leyas into his palm and fire a continuous beam at the explosive. Then as he’s firing, he would get to a proper angle to use wave motion fists to push the explosive quickly away from the train and the link. (Hopefully off to the side.) During this, he would keep his distance so if it went off, his shield should absorb most of the damage. If Injured, he’ll take a healing potion.

If this worked, he would repeat this on all of the links where there were explosives. MOving on top the train if needed, after his first one, he didn’t need to let the passengers know what he was doing. He would work his way from the back to the front. He knew the front was the most important, but the earther might see and hear any explosion when the bomb was knocked free.

If it didn’t work, he would quickly shadow jump to the car in front of him to try and work out a different plan. Maybe knocking the guy out will work.

If the earther was still upright or talking when he was done, He would chill bolt the man in an attempt to knock him out.

Inquisitor McRiley took up position to cover Ben Gorman putting a life shield on himself. When the first enemies begin to attack he will use his heavy pistol to suppress them. Upon being injured McRiley will retreat asking Ben Gorman to provide cover for him while he took care of his wounds. When Gorman turns his back McRiley shall sneak up behind him pressing his plasma torch knife to Gorman’s back and activate it point blank into his spine hopefully severing it. Hopefully pressing the plasma torch knife against his back first will bypass any shields Gorman might have as well as any body armor he has. When Gorman hits the ground and turns in shock to the Inquisitor he shall hear “Your sacrifice will not be in vain my friend, however your plan is too foolish and has too many holes to be worthwhile. You are better off as a Martyr then as a fighter.” Then McRiley shall fire two rounds from his heavy pistol point blank into Gorman’s skull.

Inquisitor McRiley shall loot Gorman of all his equipment and see if the bombs go off. If they do he shall withdraw back to his Hoverbike and move away leaving the passengers to be stranded. If the bombs are defused before Gorman is killed then McRiley shall pretend to be a concerned citizen of the Lost Colonies who wished to help. Hopefully collecting a reward before withdrawing.

Lok’or was enjoying the ride. This was far bad than flying thru the stars locked in a storage box, waiting to invade some new world like in the old days. Riding in a passenger car, with his cloak closed as to not disturb the other passengers, he heard the annoucment. Glancing up, he looked out eh window and saw a hoverbike riding up along side the train. ‘And now, what was the term, oh yes, a train robbery. These earthers really do like their clichés,’ he thought to himself.

Standing up and walking between car as if to move, lok’or climb to the top of the train and walk to the front. Disabling the hoverbike with shadow leyas to prevent the train robbers from escaping, he will then attempt to enter the train engine from the same entry the robbers used, while cloaked in shaodws. Watching from the shadows, he will see how the others on the train respond to the robbery. He is more interested in the action than stoppong the robbery, but will use any means to prevent the robbers from harming or killing anyone if possible.

Lok’or, Dead surgeon (standard out of the book other than a child like wonder at the inovations of the earthers)

Zhgog’ol Maklur, Elder Uhryu of the Venerable Tribe of Yagogi’al the Og’ab was showing his tribes support by being on the maiden voyage of the Hovertrain. He will follow instructions and do his part so that no one gets hurt. In the transfer to the Olgog car he will take notice of any that are getting upset by the actions of Ben Gorman, and calmly use SOOTHE TEMPER on them. He will take his own seat, and quietly begin channeling with the totem spirit of growling. Then while no one is looking he will SHADOW WALK out of the hovertrain to try meeting with his totem students back with the tribe in Karov. Of the students are Onigor, Maggul and Der’ LooDol. He instructs them about when is going on with the Hovertrain’s maiden voyage and the explosives along the train links.

The 3 Totem students know how chill works on earther technology and how imperative it is that they catch up to the hovertrain, so they commune with the totem spirit of the Talon Bat. The uhryu will let the students know where he was seated and what car his was last in. With all information shared, Zhgog’ol Maklur will make his way to return back onto the train hopefully with none the wiser that he has disappeared, awaiting a sign that the explosives have been disarmed and then it is up to him to handle Ben Gorman. The 3 students using the flight of the Talon Bat follow the shadow walking Maklur and follow him back to the speeding hovertrain. They will Make strafing runs with shadow blast along all the explosive at the link points. Once all explosives have been taken care of Maggul will find Maklur and give him the all clear sign.

At this Zhgog’ol Maklur will make his way up to Ben Gorman’s car. He is not looking to make any hostile movements, “I have come to see the great Hovertrain the earthers bring to these lands. It should be a momentous occasion, however an unfortunate situation is taking place during the first trip. What is it that I have done to you that forces your hand to this action? What is it that my cubs and tribe have done to you? Or what is it that my people have personally done to you?” He will simply have a conversation with Gorman, and whomever is there with him fully knowing that the explosives have been disarmed. He will be casting SLUMBER from the point he walks into the room for any moment that should arise where they look to touch or remove him.
