Goblin Lands Defensive Mission Week 12: The Inquisitors come to clean up

#1

Inquisitor Malcolm Rosen watched through the binoculars as the Olgogs peaceably left the Tower of Resugent. It was exactly as the High Inquisitors had said, Sir Resugent had become a blasphemer and a heretic. He was working in some capacity with the “goblin menace”. More so, he had returned from the forbidden storehouses of lore of the Bishop Kasanth.

God only knows what heretical information he had gained, the High Inquisitors had told Rosen. The Rosens were an old Inquisitorial family, equal in respect to the Dugaris, the Leonins, the Vensis, and the Starsmiths. When the High Inquisitors called Malcolm would prove his families loyalty.

He had a team of twelve initiate inquisitors, a pair of Red Bishop Artillery Striders (sans rocket barrages) and a cloaked Inquisitorial Hovercopter. The fools above him had denied his request for any real explosives or nerve gas, or wmds. Typical government bureaucrats, thought Malcolm.

His attack would be simple. Sniper rifles would be handed to three of the initiates, and they would focus on delivering a headshot to the heretic Resugent. Malcolm had been clear in his orders, Resugent could not be allowed to alert Lord Grimaldus of anything. Malcolm already believed Lord Grimaldus to be soft on goblins, and was just waiting for the moment when the High Inquisitors added the head of house grimaldus to his kill list.

The tower would be levelled by the Striders and the inquisitors would collect bodies from the rubble. Or at least that was Malcolm’s plan. They would attack at dawn with the sun at their back.

As dawn was rising Malcolm saw the olgog scouts had noticed the approach of their striders and were running to tell the heretic. He sighed. Nothing was easy these days.

Tor’ab thought about this battle. He really didn’t want to kill more earthers, but if Ka’ab was right that this Oner in the tower was worth protecting. Also he worried that if they bombed the tower, it would let out the K’ias. And that would be horrible. So they had to protect the area.

TOr’ab says “Everyone take a finger tip and leave it with our Apprentice Auf Orog. He will be staying out of sight to bring anyone back if needed.

Make sure to keep Chill and Ice Shields up. This will help block the thermal and protect from some of their weapons. We will attack on Kugon and Lalons Signal. The ground forces will jump out of the Fighters and shadow jump to attack the attacking Oners force. The fighters at this same time will strike any vehicles at the same time. Especially any striders. Attack quick, remove their equipment, but leave them water for their walk back.”

The the gogs load up into the Lur Union Fighters. These fighters would scatter in pairs to to surround and flank this attacking Church of One group. They would stay out of site while Kugon and Lalon were sent out on growlings to search the area and to find the attacking forces. The Growlings should not be able to be seen easily and they will shadow jump to cover ground quickly.

Once the Strider is found Lalon and Kugon will hide into the shadows. Then Lalon will ready the signal while Kugon summons an earth Spirit. The Spirit will be directed to crumble the ground below the striders and then launch a stone Pillar to knock them over. Lalon at that time will use Light Target on the Striders so the fighters can see it and target it. All Fighters will open fire to start the attack. The Lasers will aim for the striders cockpit to destroy them. Any other earther vehicles will be hit with Leyas mine grenades. (Note the Fighters are flying in a pair formation to cover each other.)

The ground team, Tor’ab, his 10 apprentices, and 10 Raiders will split up into groups of 4. At this signal for the ground troops to jump out of the fighters and join the fight. If Tor’ab sees the snipers, he will Launch a shadow wall in front and around them. Then they will shadow jump through it to attack from the sides. (Thinking they would fire to the front of them.). The Apprentices will use their wave motion fists to attack at range or melee knocking down the Oners.

At the end of the fight, they will strip the Oners of their equipment with the exception of base clothing and waterskins. Tor’ab will have any that were killed revived.

Tor’ab says to them after they are brought back: “Your life was restored by an Olgog. Hope you can live with that. You are to stop your aggression in the Olgog Lands. This includes attacking your own. Now go home. And do not bring your weapons into these lands unless invited by Olgogs.”

Kharos and his 15 rescued Ur’Rhug were camped nearby. He hadn’t been keen to return straight home, being that it would probably result in a series of boring and unadventurous tasks, as well as the branding that he had yet to have done. For now, he was acting as his own leader, commanding the small band of olgogs in the defense of the tower. He was far enough away that Resugent wouldn’t assume they were planning an attack, yet close enough that they could be of use.

He would have his Raiders hide in a nearby copse of trees on a small rise, using their shadow leyas to hide themselves. Once the main force of the church was moving towards the tower, they would begin throwing chill bolts at the inquisitors and the striders, with the aim of shutting down their heavy machinery.

Kharos himself would first have warned the tower of the impending attack, trusting that because of his past help to Resugent he wouldn’t be killed on the spot. He would return to his forces and use a fire leap to descend on the enemy forces swiftly. He would focus on felling leaders and important looking ones, although at times they all looked the same to him. In the end he would hope he would receive some backup, not that he was afraid of a few puny earthers.

Kharos’s Equipment/Trainings:

-Suit of Honored Lamellar Armor (Artificed with burst shield)

-Honorific samurai’s Daisho set with a Katana and Wakazashi (Both with shieldbreaker lvl 4)

(Otherwise normal except for fire leyas at level 3)

#4

Paladin Resugent stood in front of his defense force, ten Squires and a pair of Paladins, the rest of his forces were in charge of evacuating the peasants to a safe distance in case the defenders failed. A single Paladin would remain to operate the flamethrower in case some of the attack force tried to infiltrate the tower, though unlikely.

Turning to his troops Resugent spoke to explain his plan. “Listen carefully, I am not going to suger coat this, the Church wants us all dead. They fear what we have learned from within the tower, they fear that their stranglehold upon the people will be removed. To be honest I am not on a grand crusade to bring down the Church, I simple want to keep you all safe, and bring the truth to my cousin. If he wants to do more then I shall support him. For now however we need to concentrate on surviving today. Here is the plan. I will move forward drawing their fire while the rest of you move around to flank the enemy. I know, not a very complicated plan but their goal is the tower and me. They will not shoot at you unless you appear to be a direct threat until their main objective is done. This way you should be able to move around them and strike at their snipers. Clutch your crosses and pray for healing, no matter what happened or will happen your faith is your strength. Not to the lies of the Church but to God himself, God existed before the Church of One and will always exist, he loves you and his healing will be bestowed upon you. Squires, your younger and smaller, keep your heads down and move quickly. Once you all flank the enemy focus on knocking them out. If they are inquisitors they can use their powers against you all to great effect, they must be rendered unconscious so they cannot. Do not worry about the Striders, you cannot do anything against them so let me and our “helpers” take care of them. Good luck to you all, I know you will make me proud. God be with you, and bless you.”

Resugent shall first cast Life Shield,(healing 1) and Confounding Lights (Light 2) upon himself. The Confounding Lights should make it harder for the Snipers to target him. He shall charge the enemy keeping his head down (and helmet on :stuck_out_tongue: ) and cast Nerve Disruption (Healing 3) upon any target he sees. He will try to draw their attention and their fire without getting blown to pieces. He needed to keep their eyes on him allowing his Squires and Paladins to move around and take out the Inquisitors, some of which hopefully would be at least hampered by the Nerve Disruption. Once his troops hit the enemy and he sees an opening he shall join them in their attack. Using Nerve Disruption to keep the Inquisitors distracted. Resugent would trust his Olgog “allies” with the removal of the Striders as he had no way of even damaging them.

Windsor Hamlock smiled when Resugent allowed him to join in the attack. The only thing more fun than attacking Church of One forces were Morgothians, so it was going to be a field day!

He’d tell Resugent and the nearest olgog champion, “If you see a strider dancing, that’s me. Stop shooting at me and focus on the other one.”

His main goal was to get his hands on a strider. In order to do that, he would have to get in the strider without being seen. His first goal would be to steal a weapon from the Inquisitors. He would act defensively, healing the wounded (healing level 2) or Air leyas to either levitate objects or defend. If possible, once an inquisitor lost their gun, he would levitate it over to himself. He’d then use his shadow walk ability to join the fray (unseen) among the church of one forces, appearing to be one of them (I love being disguisable!). He’d then beeline, shooting in the general direction of the striders, screaming “Death to all Goblins!” as he appears to shoot at goblins that might be flanking them. They won’t be, of course, but it should serve as a nice distraction. He’d then levitate himself up, open the cockpit, and throw the guy in the cock-pit out using either levitate or killing him with his sword, then levitating. Once in command, he’d reappear as Windsor, and using his non-existant Strider pilot skills (He has Wargiant 4), to try to make the strider dance for a few seconds (special ability: Fearless). Two steps forward, two steps back, and turn around in a circle, and then clap. Then he’d open fire on the Church of One Forces. If he sees the invisible hovercopter, even better. Main objective, try really really hard NOT to shoot towards the tower and engage in friendly fire. If he does, heal.

If he can’t get to a strider, or if it takes a while, then he’d levitate dead church of one bodies and their weapons to him and turn them into Katherons, and send them back into the fray (3 Max). Oh, and collect many Earther weapons (that he has no idea how to use, but since when does that stop anyone?!?).

Hovercopter: If the strider lets him see it, shoot at it. Otherwise, use Light Leyas to make the copter visible to everyone else. If not, wait for the moment of opportunity, through Leyas sight (?), shadow walk onto the thing (taking the Katheron he created if he has the opportunity to do so, and if possible, an olgog… anyone would do), and make it visible using light. If possible, “throw” inhabitants off using levitate until they are outside aircraft, then letting go. The Katheron is a body shield/helping hand. Using his, once again, non-existant piloting skills, he’d try to take command of the vessel and fly it away to safety. If not, crash it away from the tower. He’d bail and use slow fall to avoid certain death in the process. If he can figure out how to pilot the thing, then he’d steal it instead of the strider, flying away.

This was all a terrible plan of action, Windsor thought to himself, but sometimes crazy works.

Paxil had been made aware of a situation where the Church of One had been a nuisance in the Olgog Lands and he knew that he could hardly throw a stick to the west without hitting a nest of them. This was how he liked it, and this would help cement his way into being accepted by the rest of the tribes, at least he thought it would. After pulling a tooth from his mouth he gave it to Zozo his young dragon friend and passenger for safe keeping. “You know what to do.”

Concentrating on his hat he pulled the shadow leyas on it and went from tree shadow to tree shadow. He would go silently and summoning the shadow leyas to see the souls of his prey.

Going from tree to tree Paxil would use his unique skill set and cadre of artifacts to find any weak spot in the church of one forces that are amassing and pick them apart so that his fellow gogs can do their best… or worst…

Paxil weapon skills (Hand to hand at 7, LC Melee and Ranged at 5, Blowgun at 4, Blunt at 2, Thrown at 1, and polearms at 4)
Special Trainings: Ranged Shot +1, Melee Strike +2, Rapid Throw +1, and Hydraulic Knight 1-3
Artifacts: Paxil’s Hat (Hide in Shadows 6 successes, Shadow Walk 4 successes, Translate 4 successes) Paxil’s Jacket (Wall of Shadows 4 successes, Instill Nightmare 4 successes, Create Nightmare: Fleshworms 4 successes, Shadow Cocoon 6 successes, and Vampire Bolt 6 Successes.) Paxils Mask (Rolling Fog at 6 successes and Easy Breating at 6 successes, allows for plague breath) Paxil’s Big Whomping Pipe (2d8 + Str, Shield Break 8 Successes, Vampire Blast 10 successes), Quall Slayer NngHai (artificed with absorb nightmare at 4 successes), and last but not least Hydraulic Knights Armor (stats found in the outlaws guide to refuge.)

On’tor began the morning training and channeling of the totem spirit of growling. It was during this that she noticed the oncoming forces of the Oner army, she needed to be calm and collected. She went back to channeling, and finished the ritual. As soon as the ritual was over, she used the powers granted from the growling spirit to make her way back to the rest of the tribe in Karov and return in force. She was ranting about Zhor’ab befriending the one decent Church of Oner that they had worked alongside, that there was a Oner army coming to attack them. No one really said or did anything. That’s when On’tor told them this man’s tower was the place that kept all the k’ias they had recently reported to finding, and if the tower fell all these would be on the loose. With this new information, On’tor was able to take 10 more tribals (Gor’ Der’al, Kol Rhug’lur, Darmag’ Der, P’hin’Na, Ol’Yyangog, Zh’gul Took, Rapi Hob’og, Yyankol Doltook, Ufgog Lok, and Lootla Yigog) along with Mag’ol Zhya Gog’mis.

Back the the Tower, Zhor’ab will assist Resugent’s men and with his consent stand guard with the Paladin operating the flamethrower. From this spot of the battlefield, Zhor’ab will use SHADOW PUPPET to divert the oncoming army’s attention, making it appear that there are other larger forces flanking them. If battle does make it’s way to the tower, Zhor’ab will make an escape with the paladin by SHADOW WALKING away to safety at the zero hour. Meanwhile, On’tor will return with Mag’ol and tribals. They are not looking to kill the Oners, but stop the oncoming forces and the masthead of the force is the Oners Strider. With the ground forces being preoccupied by others, On’tor will SHADOW WALK the tribe directly under the Strider in the blindspot. Then Zhya Gog’mis will begin TRIBAL FURY and they will look to disable and take down the strider cutting it open using tribal strength and their zela blades. Tribals will make with way on top of the strider and cut it open like skinning an animal. On’tor will stick around as a quick escape using SHADOW WALK. All in all they are looking to deter Oners, instead of killing them and adding to the power of MagMag Gor. They need to stop the Strider or then there is the added threat of wandering k’ias into the already volatile field of the Olgog lands.

#8

It had been a good day for Grubb. She had defended the honor of the Great Northern Army, survived what she would only refer to as the great Earther nightmare (or insert olgog word for nightmare), and managed to make her way back with 15 new olgog raiders to join the gang. She was happy, until she ran into olgog scouts, telling her of an invading force that wished to destroy the tower. Grubb remembered the creatures that were housed beneath the tower, and knew it would be a bad idea to let them loose on Der’al. So did Golan.

Between the two of them, the roused the newly alive raiders (15 of them) toward the tower. Chances are, they’d be a little late for the initial volley, but they’d work to disrupt the main troops. The raiders would use various Leyas attacks to disrupt gun fire. If the striders are already taken care of, then they’d use level 3 leyas (ka = fireball, der = levitate, lalhob = tunnel material or grow spears, depending on whether or not the Earthers were advancing or staying put, tor = shadowwalking others to remain mobile, water = create water/change form and/or chill metal to make them drop guns). The ur rhug would provide mobility support. The tribal would summon hydra while maintain mock aggression on someone (whoever is doing most recent attack).

Standard Tribal (named Grubb)- wearing leather armor, carrying hobtor spear, had LR2, water 2, troubadour 2. She has a trinket of create hydra and an axe of chill bolt.
Ur Rhug - level 3 Earth (don’t remember the name), level 3 shadow, LR4. Also has leather armor, hobtor spear, obsidian spear, and artifact of create water and change form.

Against strider (if not yet disabled) - grow vines to slow it down, chill the weapons’ systems, change form on the steam packs to ice, heat metal. (4 total)
Against the Hovercopter - chill bolt out of the sky. If there are others on the copter (olgog or fellow fighters), either shadow walk on to help, or provide additional Leyas support as needed.
