Goblin Lands Crusade Mission Week 13: Breaking the Siege at the Choir of Payne

#1

Lurtor flew northward with two Lur Union fighters at his wing. It was hard finding the hidden Aerie of the Choir of Payne. Much like a suburb, this aerie was subordinate to the Dawn Spear, but the families of the Choir considered themselves independent. They refused to ask the Dawn Spear for aid but when forty Sword Giants surrounded the Plateau of the Aerie of the Choir of Payne, they were cut off none the less.
Daily battle against the Giants has resulted in a stalemate, but soon food and water will run out. The Giants are each over forty feet tall, and can hurl trees like spears to take down airships and flyers. They are intelligent and dangerous. And with them is an ancient Cultist of the Mag Mag Gor.

Their tactics are straight forward, crush or kill anyone who dares to threaten them or stop their siege. If their numbers drop down to twenty or the Cultist is destroyed, the Baribur of the Choir of Payne will join the fight.

Remember that Sword Giants are able to camoflague naturally in mountainous regions much like the area surrounding the Choir of Payne’s small aerie. Only during midday when they attack the walls of Choir of Payne are they visible.

The Cultist will hang back, and shadow walk around to strike as needed. ’

This takes place east of Tla’loc’al.

Challenges:

1- Who do you send in?

2- What is your strategy and tactics for the 40 Sword Giants?

3- How do you defeat Sword Giant Cultist of Warmonger?

Lurtor was happy he rounded up the best teams for their demo flight to the aviary. Not this will pay off for more than just showing off. He had worked with these tribesmen when they took on the Giant Nightmare in Unen. Lalder had trained his gogs well.

Lurtor rounds up the crews and says “These giants are hard to see. So each Light leyas user will light up the target so the gunners can take aim. We will need to hit them hard and fast. Also we need to stay father out to give time to dodge their spears. To use they will look like trees. A fighter with Ice shield maybe able to take a hit, but I’m not sure about too. So use your thrusters to dodge quickly. And use hit and run tatics. There is alot of them, and they have some firepower.

We will have two situations or possible encounters with these giants.

First, they are attacking the fort and are easier to see. This is my prefered. The giants should be easier to see. We will attack from above and try to take out as many as we can. Just keep your distance.

Second. The Giants are hiding. In this, I’ll shadow jump around on the ground. I can use my sonar to find them before they find me. I’ll light them up. When you see the light fire quickly and then move. If I need evac, I’ll use the comcystal to request a pickup and where.

If a Fighter is shot down, we will pick you up. Just hide in shadows until we can pick you up. Light up any targets approaching you and we will provide cover fire.

Lastly, this is your time to show off how good your tribe is at building things. This is a sales pitch on top of a rescue mission. If we win this, and come out with our ships, it will show how effective they are. Your tribe will have something to trade the Dawn Spear Aviary.

Now, Move out.”

General tatics with these giants.
Each Fighter will have a Light Leyas user who will use Light Target when they spot a giant. The first shot will be with the fireball shieldbreaker (4 Successes) gun followed up by the Laser for a finishing blow. Lurtor will use warsong for his fighter’s pilot and gunner to give them an edge.

Lurtor will mainly be spoting out targets and keeping hiden if he is on the ground. Using Sonar to spot the giants before they spot him. Keeping to the shadows and shadow walking. He has his Wave motion first, Phoenix strike Pistol and his Paladin’s sword to fight with. Though he will only hit and run. His main objective is to spot targets. If he sees a good sniper shot on the Cultist, he will take it.

Orog and OrTla both have magi cannons, and will use them as needed. Especially if they get shot down.

Finger tips have been left in a tree and the tribe has been told where. Just in case the worst happens.

“So what the hell are we doing out here?” Groused Graf.
“Boss is hoping if we help lift this siege it’ll open up new markets for merc work and GUTS.” Replied Flora.
“What are three of us supposed to do against forty giants?”
“We don’t need to deal with forty giants you nitwit. We take the leader an rest of the gang will melt away.” Rum-blood answered peering down a brass telescope at the siege lines.
“You’d know about that,” Graf muttered.

Flora and Graf will be armed with sniper rifles and try to wait for a headshots at the giant leader. They will prepare firing positions and displace to them as needed they will not fire from the same place more than once.
Rum-blood(standard load out using life shield and ice shield) will ward areas on approach to the hiding place against shadow and earth to disrupt their shadow walking and camo abilities to make hitting them easier. One of the outcasts trucks is hidden nearby and will be used if escape becomes necessary.

Tor’Lur smiled to himself as he always did before a great battle. He loved the anticipation that the waiting brought, and the pleasure of victory. He also smiled because he so frequently met with Lurtor in battle, and found it amusing. As he waited for midday to arrive, he reviewed the plan in his head. With him were his own steed and 4 of the 5 Yadol Riders of Ol’Lur and their mounts for which they are named. After weeks of training, they were eager to try out and improve their skills. As standard procedure when fighting enemies with acid attacks, each of them (including the Yadols and horse) had left a piece behind for resurrection.

Tor’Lur had tasked Ordol, the leader of the Riders, to take his brothers and attack the targets that Lurtor calls out (assuming he tells other tribes), or to use leyas sight and home in on the giants’ artifacts. He also told them to stay back from the cultist giant, and not to engage him without the support of another tribe. Once a target had been spotted, the Riders would use ride-by tactics to bring them down one or two at a time using speak with animals as needed to co-operate effectively. Three of them will use their Poisonbringer Stinger Spears while at a range and then switching to Krato bone thrusting spears for quick close combat while circling around the target. Along with them, Ordol will use his Artificed Brezan Lance to charge the Riders’ current target(s). When in close combat, the Riders will have their Yadols attempt to bite at the target’s neck and use their spiked legs to ward off any other giants that get too close. The other three Riders will retrieve their thrown spears and replenish the poison with pouches of Poisonbringer poison as needed.

Meanwhile, Tor’Lur (riding his horse) will also be using leyas sight to spot targets and charging them with his Kuggoryyan Fang Spear. To break up the giants’ formation (if they have one) he will use Slick Surface and exploit any weakness of giants that stumble. After his first kill his horse will rear up, and Tor’Lur will shout, “I am Tor’Lur, Giant Slayer! Surrender now if you wish to live!”

(OOC: Tor’Lur is equipped with Compassion of Protodoxa, the Kuggoryyan Fang Spear (Giantkiller), engraved Ol’Lur Rings of Protective Aura and Heal Internal Damage, Mag Buskt’s Bracelet (using Chill Shield), and an Earring of Translate. Tor’Lur has Tor’Lur, Giant Slayer and AGI+1.

Ordol (Yadol Riders Leader) is equipped with engraved Ol’Lur Rings of Protective Aura and Heal Internal Damage, and Earring of Translate, Poisonbringer Armor, and a Brezan Lance artificed with shieldbreak (x3 dmg on mounted charge).
The other three Riders all have engraved Ol’Lur Rings of Protective Aura and Heal Internal Damage, and Earring of Translate, Nightmare Hide Armor, and Poisonbringer Stinger Spears.
Yadol Riders of Ol’Lur are riding Ol’Lur Yadols (not Lur Union Yadols).)

The Captain stood next to the helmsmen of the Hindengog, looking displeased at the region in which they were flying through. He disliked mountains in general, and flying over them was easy, but they still made him ill at ease. They only had one machine gun, the three without a machine gun, including himself, carrying rifles. He looked through the scope attached to his, a loan from Olav, and spotted the small Aerie. HE had the idea of staying at a far distance and trying to get good shots in at the giants, having the heavier gun reserved for any closer problems they encountered.

He turned to the crew of the Hindengog. They flew light today, only four crewmen and himself aboard. “We have arrived, half speed and begin to circle the target from this distance.” He thought for a moment. “Actually, make that full speed. Keep an eye out for any projectiles and avoid them at all costs.” He turned to the three sharpshooters; Ur’og, Tla’ab and Tla’hob. “You’er some of our best sharpshooters, keep at the ready though. These giants could throw anything at us. Literally.” He looked at the helmsman, remembering his name. “Der’ol, keep your eyes peeled and be ready to take evasive action if there is something incoming that could take us out.” He looked back at the other three. “We traveled light to be maneuverable, but also to make sure no shot misses due to a slight jostle from another.” He looked pointedly at Ur’og and Tla’ab. “That means you two. Anyway, make shots that count, and keep them worth-while. Der’ol is a good pilot, he will be able to keep us at a steady pace as to not make our shots miss.” He ordered them to their stations at the side, he himself took a spot next to Tla’hob who was at the machine gun post.

GENERAL
Der’ol will be piloting the airship, watching for projectiles is his main priority. Second is to keep the port side facing the Aerie, while circling counter clockwise.

Tla’hob’s duty is to take out projectiles that CAN be taken out, while also firing at anything that may be getting too close. He will be watching the closest mountains for enemy movement, and will notify the rest of the crew and they will take evasive action to avoid any attacks from below. HE will begin firing upon assuring that the enemy below is actually an enemy.

Reshed (The Captain), Ur’og and Tla’ab will take sniping positions and fire upon any of the giants, aiming mainly for the head and the legs.

(OCC not trying to end the thread, just getting my response in before 8pm.)

Lurtor was happy to see the other tribes around. As he could (Shadow jumping nearby), he would approach each noting his plan of Lighting up the targets and for them to keep out. At this point, he would be more out of the Lur Union fighters than in. He could do more good on the ground, and the airships gave them cover. He needed to get them working together. Tell them his plan.

If Lurtor comes on a group in combat, he will act to support them. Using Protective Song and if being pressed by Shadow Leyas, Squad Shield (Group +10 AR VS Chill). He will stop Protective Shield to use Light Target to bring in the Lur Union Fighters for a strike. When that part of the battle is over, he will move to the step. Either Hunting more Giants to Light up, or another group of Allies to organize.

Lurtor will avoid a shadow warded area, but relay to a Lur Union Fighter through the comcrystal to check it out. Relaying any information.

When the Choir of Payne joins the battle, he will do the same for them.

When the Hindengog arrives, One of the Lur Union fighters will stay near the Hindengog take out targets popping up to attack the big ship. The pilot will also relay the general plan.
