CHildren's Charity Live Event 3: A Doctor, a Paladin, & a Dimension Walker (week4-5)

#1

The memorable Doctor Yitor was one of those rare people you meet in the course of your travels that confirms that sometimes the cure is worse than the condition. He was one of the few beings among the Olgogs who was called by the Earther term Doctor and he himself admits it may be why most Olgogs are wary of doctors.

Doctor Yitor barely stood three feet tall, and that was in boots. He carried with him his instrument, a zela scimitar nearly double his size. Doctor Yitor was shockingly charismatic, able to sway a crowd to his side immediately. And he was wordly, having lived among the Falosini during the K’ias Wars and among the Earthers during their colonizing phase millenia later. Doctor Yitor spoke nearly every language he had come in contact with, and was rumored to be able to convince an enemy army to kill itself without needing to ever draw his sword.

Despite this charisma, Doctor Yitor was not known for his bedside manner, often hacking off offending limbs before advising the patient. He was a Gor’ab, a hunter of The Enemy. There have been many Gor throughout the history of the Olgogs. There were the Yyan Gor, the giant enemies. There was the MagMag Gor, the most ancient of enemies and his empire of shapeshifters and Torkol gogs. And there were the Ka Gor’na, the fiery enemies of the Volcano.

Doctor Yitor had hunted all of the above but there was a certain Earther passing through Tla’loc’al that the doctor recognized from his days hunting a cult of dimension walkers. That Earther had been the servant of the Ka Gor’na and had crossed the doctor’s path a few times.

The Doctor used his charisma to gather a group of tribal leaders to hunt down that damnable Dimension Walker. They made their way south following two days behind the Killer of Hope as he had been called in the old days.

The Killer of Hope changed certain habits noted Doctor Yitor as they finally found the Killer of Hope holed up at a compound hidden out on the Trail of Auf Maglal. They saw the Killer of Hope and an unknown Paladin of the Church of One. Oners and Horned Dogs were never known for working together and this worried Doctor Yitor.

Seeing the villians about to remove a set of ornate religious relics from a section of wall, the Gor’ab went into action. Keeping his Zela blade firmly wrapped in its nightmare hide sheath, Doctor Yitor snuck up behind the pair using every bit of field craft he knew.

After making it too close to turn back, Doctor Yitor realized another being was hidden by some form of invisibility nearby. He was so close though, so close he could see the sweat on the back of Khalid Phoenixkiller’s neck. Doctor Yitor drew his blade and cut, not for Khalid but for the nozzel on his flamethrower. With the tank now open to the air, he saw most of the fuel was gone. His other hand came up cupping a small spark of fire and dropped it into the flamethrower’s tank while rolling away.

Khalid looked over to see a tiny green form dart away then the explosion hurled Khalid up and into the air. His ears were ringing but as he moved through the air time seemed to slow. He could see Sir Resugent shielding the artifical intelligence computer drive with his own body. The knigh’s armor absorbed much of the shrapnel, but the concussive wave knocked the knight unconscious.

Khalid hit the ground with enough force to bounce. He felt his arm tear, and looked down to the skin hanging open and a five inch gash. He cauterized the wound with some fire and got back up. His Quall Leather jacket was covered in shrapnel, and Khalid was fairly sure he had ruptured an eardrum.

As he got up he saw Olgog tribals going for the relics of the Bishop’s Squires. Khalid knew he was risking Sir Resugent learning his secret but exposed his bone spurs. They were surgically implanted after being stolen from a flayer. They could extend wings of fire, and at this height it was as effective as a jump pack. Khalid rushed towards the toward wall, flipped his legs around so he could land safely. One hand grabbed the censor, and Khalid couldn’t help but notice the cross was missing.
Had the traveler brought the other Olgogs to him? He wondered.

Then he saw some buildings that had been camouflaged in days past but were revealed by the explosion. There was a small power station building, and inside it, Khalid could barely make out something moving inside. As it moved there was a giant blast from the top of the observatory of Bishop Dannor. It was an orbital beam, and could be seen for many many miles around the tower.
Then moments later to Khalid’s horror the top of the tower with all its knowledge was destroyed. Now only the copy Resugent carried still held all that important scientific and historical data.

Khalid grabbed the other three items, and ran for body of resugent. He peeled the knight back and saw shallow breathing. The knight was unconscious but not dead, and the computer core was safe.

Khalid tucked the computer into Resugent’s pack, and lifted the knight onto his back. Carrying the knight, the old man whispered, “Time to get out of here, Sir knight. Before we…”

But he was cut off as the ground nearby was ripped apart. A giant head loomed up from inside the hole. Doctor Yitor and the Olgog tribal leaders turned their attention on the giant in that moment.

Seeing his opportunity, Khalid activated the wings and flew off leaving the Olgogs to fight the Yyan Gor.

Feeling Resugent begin to stir, Khalid landed a few miles away. He quickly covered his spouts, adjusted a backpack over the flap of his jacket. Khalid took out a healing canteen and took a single gulp, feeling the ringing in his ears subside and his skin heal. He sat down next to Resugent and poured a little water from his healing canteen down the knight’s throat.

“We are lucky,” said Khalid as Resugent awoke, “Not too many people run into a Gor’ab and come away live.”

“What is a Gor’ab?” asked Resugent as he looked around and saw the smoke coming up from the damaged tower in the distance.

“They hunt the enemies of the tribes,” said Khalid simply, “We need to move. If they are still on our trail we want to be far from this region.”

“What about the Cross of Lord Grimaldus?” asked Resugent.

Khalid opened his bag to reveal the four icons except the cross saying, “The locals stole it. We can recover it, but first we have to stop Mortis Leonin at your tower.”

“The computer where…” asked Resugent.

“Its safe, its in your pack,” replied Khalid, “Its also the last copy. Looks like the locals torched the tower.”

“Goblin scum,” said Resugent, “We should stand and take them on here.”

“And who will tell Lord Grimaldus about his family? What will happen to the last copy of all that knowledge? And who will stop Mortis Leonin?” asked Khalid in a panic.

“Fine, but once we have accomplished these three tasks, I will kill these goblins and retake the cross,” said Resugent.

It took them over a month on foot to reach the Tower where it stood halfway between Brez and Unen. The landscape nearby had changed dramatically since they left. The dry seasons of Auf Ka and Auf Tor were over and the rains of the season of Auf Kol left them sloshing through knee deep mud.

A mile away from the tower, they found a soaked camp of two tents. There they encountered five squires who failed epically at their watch.

“What are you doing out here boys?” asked Resugent, “Why aren’t you in the tower?”

“An Inquisitor took the tower Sir Resugent. He said you were long dead and wouldn’t be coming back. Its good to see you sir!” said one squire named Ham.

“Hamfist the second, son of Lord Hamfist of Dunesphere your father would think you daft for sitting out here in the rain. And Goblins could cut your throats while you sat here you were all so distracted.”

“Sorry sir, the Goblins been avoiding us, they want the tower,” replied Ham as he chewed on his thumb.

“How many Goblins?” asked Resugent.

“One hundred from Brez,” said Ham, “They yelled something about the Inquisitor oweing them money? They have been camped outside for over a week.”

At that one of the squires sneezed, oozing greenish mucus. Resugent said a small prayer and placed his hands on the boy’s head. The sneezing stopped and the mucus first turned from green to clear and then stopped dripping completely.

“Thank you sir,” said the squire, “I feel better.”

“God will make everything better, all we have to do is believe it will become better,” said Ham.

“And act when needed,” interrupted Khalid pointing at the Tower of Resugent in the center of a teeming mass of Goblins.

At the window in the top floor of the tower stood a man dressed in an Inquisitor’s uniform. The strange Inquisitor extended his hand and suddenly the entire crowd of one hundred Olgogs grabbed their chests. Some yelped, some roared, some died quietly, but all of them died in that instance.

Sir Resugent saw the elusive Mortis Leonin for the first time. His wild white hair made him look mad. A small bushy white mustache graced his upper lip. His deep blue eyes were ringed in brown. And his expression was one of fury and madness.

“I order you to hand over the Censor of the Most Beloved Squire,” yelled Mortis Leonin, “If you don’t I will kill your entire household as quickly as I killed those Goblins. I need that Censor, and therefore I must have it. You cannot and will not keep it from me. You are thieves, you must have stolen the Censor. So close to my goal and the one piece I need you have. Give it to me NOW!”

“Not the most respectful piece of scum eh?” asked Khalid in a whisper.

“I can see why you dislike this man,” answered Resugent in a whisper.
