Agent Candy had never been so frustrated in all her years of overwatch for the VLAD Agency.
As a master spy, trained torturer, and artificer she was perfectly suited for fieldwork. Her very real cover as the leader of a cult of personality and sex cult, allowed her to hobnob with rich Colonial aristocrats as well as foul underworld syndicates with ease.
She had nearly single handedly busted up a child snuff industry on the Kalino Dockyards. Candy had been influencial in cutting off the 99s Cartel’s strong hold on the Dumbar factories. And now she was getting sand in uncomfortable places in the Goblin lands. No wonder they called them Goblin Lands, said Candy, only Goblins would want them. She felt bad for the good Olgogs, the families who struggled every day to make it in a world where Humans were the apex predator. But she had also seen enough Goblin Trash abuse Olgogs and Earthers and everybody else.
Unit 111 was just that sort of trash. Unholy Warmonger Cultists, and filled with ranks of heavily armed undead, Unit 111 activities were high on the list of investigations. Candy had just finished cleaning out a trio of nests of them, set up a camp in a cave with clean water access, and protected it with a small field of mines.
She finished penning her official report, and placed inside a special envelope with a shadow inside leading to a VLAD Agency mail drop. Then she prepared her unofficial logs. These were to be delivered to Olgog leadership later on, a way to clue them in on the horrors that the Warmonger Cult had planned for this place.
They had recovered a weaponized teleport array design from a small laboratory of the K’ias Vul. The array was designed to steal cities and displace sections of terrain. Twenty three Warmonger’s Dead reprogrammed to destroy themselves in a firestorm of Earth Leyas at one site, Twenty three Warmonger’s Dead reprogrammed to destroy themselves in a firestorm of Shadow Leyas at another site, and a massive living sylvan crystal power converter at the center to add the additional energy to connect the two sites.
It had taken a huge outpouring of resources to set up the weapon test. But Candy had already prepped the sites for elimination once her reports went through.
The Unit 111 had a stolen Sylvan Warship in orbit above the planet. It was cloaked from EEF and Iron Republic satellites and scanners. It was designed to orbitally bombard the stolen city’s defensive stations rendering its populace cowed and in hiding for a full roll out. Candy was going to bed down and get a few hours sleep. She knew the crystalline mobile two caves over hid the control mechanism.
Candy’s first instinct was to blow up the mobile to deny it to Unit 111, then she rethought it. If there was some mad old sylvan tech onboard that takes over when the control crystal get smashed it could be bad. It would be worse if the ship shut down and drifted into orbit. A starship of that size falling from orbit could easily take out one of the colonies.
Candy felt her frustration growing. The Olgog “nations” were spending more time trying to expand their numbers than actually build functioning governments. Tribal leaders were causing war left and right, and unity was the furthest thing from their minds.
At that moment the tent flaps opened. She recognized the vampyr baribur who entered. It was Luna, one of the first members of VLAD Squad 77. Candy knew Luna was one of the old VLAD members. A spy who had been there before the VLAD incident. Candy has been on the colonies side when the EEF Spymaster had tried to effect a coup against Colony General Malthus.
Luna had somehow convinced Agent McMurphy to keep her onboard, even keeping her safe from the Strangulari who hunted the Old Vlad members. Candy didn’t expect Luna down south.
“Oh Hi,” said Luna, quickly giving a VLAD coded handgesture.
Great, thought Candy as she translated it, there were Olgog leaders here. Candy couldn’t be found here, the stupid olgogs would probably blame the Earther Colonies if they found her, even though she was just here to help.
“Well, good to see you too honey,” Candy said, “But I must be going.”
Slipping into the shadows she disappeared.
Candy watched Luna return to the Olgog leaders, carrying the reports she had penned for them. Unluckily Luna wasn’t in on the plan. She hid the reports wanting to keep VLAD documents secret as was often their goal.
The accidental deployment of the mines Candy had set out nearly killed her and them as well.
Candy knew Luna would cover for her, so she began to follow the group of Olgogs and VLAD agents. She recognized Torlok’ab of Unit 817, happy to see they were attempting to keep the peace. Who would have thought the Colonies would have to rely on a group of redeemed warmonger’s dead to be the voice of reason?
Then her eyes settled on the aura of a concealed EEF Wraith special forces assassin. She was surprised to see one here. VLAD agents were often embedded with locals, but wraiths were only sent on missions requiring a clean kill. Then Candy recognized the pair of Olgogs walking ahead of wraith. One was a pacifist, a leader known as Yyan Kol. At his side was the infamous Krodnok.
Krodnok was slowly growing influence in the Goblin Lands, and he had stolen a massive semi-sentient armory from the K’iou. He had quickly rose the ranks of persons of interest in a variety of other attacks against Colonial places of interest over the past two years.
